Providence (Vessel) logbook, 1796.

The logbook of the vessel (of unknown rigging) Providence details a shipping voyage from Sydney, Australia, to the Philippines, Jan.-Apr. 1796. The logbook is a continuation of the record begun on the ship Britannia and continued aboard the vessel Endeavor. The master of the Providence was Capt. Bampton; the logbook keeper was R. (Robert?) Murray. The logbook includes descriptions of indigenous peoples encountered, at least one incidence of disorderly conduct among the sailors on board, and notes on seafaring life. During its voyage, the Providence spoke the brig Fancy.
